Oven-Barbecued Pork Ribs

2 T vegetable oil, divided

4 lbs country-style pork ribs

½ cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp celery seeds

1 tsp chili powder

1/8 tsp pepper

2 cups water

1/4 cup white vinegar

¼ cup Worcestershire sauce

1 (12 oz) bottle chili sauce

1 medium onion, chopped

Add 1 T oil to a large Dutch oven type pan, place over medium-high heat until hot. Brown half of ribs in skillet; set aside. Brown remaining ribs in remaining 1 T oil. Return ribs to pan. Bake at 300° for 1 ½ hours.

Meanwhile, combine brown sugar and remaining 9 ingredients in a 2-quart saucepan. Bring to a boil; simmer, uncovered, over medium heat 1 hour.

Pour sauce over ribs. Bake uncovered, at 300° for 1 hour, basting occasionally. Yield: 4 servings.
